White alert for swell wave surges in large part of Maldives

The national weather agency has issued a white alert for a large part of the Maldives over possible swell wave surges.

According to the Maldives Meteorological Service, the white alert is in effect for the area from K. Atoll to Addu City from 11:30 pm to 03:30 pm on Thursday.

It warned that swell wave surges are possible in the area during high tide times.

But despite the warning of swell wave surges, fine weather is expected across the Maldives, with southwest/westerly winds of 8 – 18 miles per hour.

Seas are expected to be moderate with average waves of three to five feet.
