Police chief says gains made in efforts to combat cybercrimes

Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau says that the police have had success in its efforts to combat cybercrimes.

Shujau made the remarks in a message on Monday following the launch of the Cybercrime Center’s social media channels.

In his message, Shujau that the capacity of the police to investigate cybercrimes is increasing day-by-day.

He said that the goal of the police is to formulate strategies and utilize modern technologies and resources to establish a safe cyberspace in the Maldives.

October is marked as the Cyber Security Awareness Month.

Shujau said that the purpose of marking the month is to raise awareness and educate the public on protective measures against cybercrimes.

Shujau said that cybercrimes are at an alarming rise in the Maldives, with many falling victim to phishing scams and ransomware attacks.

The police said that Cybercrimes Center’s YouTube channel, TikTok, Facebook and Instagram pages launched on Monday will used to raise awareness regarding cybercrimes, the latest tactics used by criminals and protective measures against such crimes.
