MIRA recovers MVR 639 million in outstanding tax debt

The Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) recovered over MVR 639 million in outstanding tax debt through enforcement actions during the last business quarter.

According to the Q2 quarterly report released by the authority, it collected total MVR 639,315,685 through various enforcement actions.

This includes amounts recovered under:

  • Dunning: MVR 514,822,606
  • Dues Clearance: MVR 91,874,086
  • Account Freezing Policy: MVR 20,549,377
  • MIRA Arrears: MVR 11,924,177
  • Reminder calls/emails: MVR 135,439
  • Legal Action: MVR 10,000

MIRA also issued final notices to 10,796 non-filers and 8,947 non-payers. It also granted installment plans to 162 taxpayers who collectively owe MVR 363,819,240.

Despite recovering MVR 639 million in Q2, the total arrears as of June 30 stood at over MVR 10 billion. This includes MVR 5.5 billion in tax dues and MVR 4.5 billion in non-tax dues.

Meanwhile, SOE dues as of June 30 stood at over MVR 1.6 billion.

MIRA conducted total 83 audits and investigations in Q2, which uncovered the state was owed an additional MVR 92.53 million in taxes.
