Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has met Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The President’s Office said the meeting reinforced the strong and brotherly relationship between the two nations, with both leaders emphasizing their shared values and mutual interests.
Both leaders also explored potential avenues for cooperation in various sectors, including commerce, trade, education, tourism, and increasing direct flights between the two countries.
Prime Minister Sharif commended Maldives' remarkable progress in tourism and expressed interest in leveraging the Maldives' expertise to further develop Pakistan's tourism sector.
Both leaders also discussed climate change and adaptation strategies, expressing their commitment to addressing these global challenges. President Muizzu highlighting his administration's "5 Million Tree Project", discussed potential collaboration with Pakistan in support of this initiative.
The meeting concluded with the leaders reaffirming their dedication to strengthening diplomatic ties and advancing strategic cooperation on issues of shared concern. They also reiterated their commitment to fostering deeper bilateral relations in the future.
