Reputable figures from various fields sign for MDA

Reputable and educated figures from various local fields have signed with Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) on Tuesday.

The political party launched a campaign to enlist new members in August.

A large number of new members joined the party on Tuesday. Commenting on the matter, MDA’s Vice President, Velidhoo MP Mohamed Abbas said the new members which signed with the party include lawyers and individuals who have served in various posts in other political parties.

Abbas said the party is making visits to all residential islands across the Maldives, adding the party is also preparing to hold internal elections in the upcoming months.

As per Abbas, the party is targeting to reach at least 30,000 members. He added that efforts to enlist new members will not cease until goal is reached.

He detailed that the membership drive was being conducted with participation from all organs of the party.

Abbas stressed that youths also have opportunities within MDA.

Prior to this, Abbas said MDA would form committees in the islands, listen to public concerns, and strengthen the party's activities. He also expressed that the party is working to strengthen the public's confidence in them.

The party, founded in 2012, is the fifth largest party in terms of members, according to the Elections Commission's (EC) data.
