The police launched an investigation on Tuesday, after a woman was found dead in her home in N. Holhudhoo.
A police spokesperson said the police received a report on Tuesday morning of a woman found wounded in a home in Holhudhoo.
The police attended to the report and took the woman to the local health center, which confirmed she was deceased, said the spokesperson.
The police identified the woman as a 50-year-old Maldivian citizen.
Local sources confirmed the identity of the deceased as Zakiyya Moosa, 50.
Holhudhoo Council’s president Rilwan Mohamed told Sun that the police forensic team are investigating the case. He declined to disclose any details.
Local sources who spoke to Sun reported that Zakiyya suffered from mental health issues, for which she sought professional help. However, this has not been confirmed by her family or official channels.
According to one source, Zakiyya was seen talking and interacting with other people, shortly before she was found collapsed inside the storeroom of her home, with wounds on her throat and a knife on the ground near her body.
However, the police have yet to say whether they are treating the death as suspicious.
Zakiyya is survived by her husband, two sons and one grandchild.
