Immigration cautions on scam calls posing as officers

The Maldives Immigration have cautioned public on a new scam that involves scammers in uniforms similar to the authority reaching out to unsuspecting victims.

The authority said it has been informed of individuals posing as immigration officers contacting the public via WhatsApp video calls. Scammers, often concealing their identities, posing as Immigration officers have been contacting the public and asking for personal and banking information.

Immigration said it will never ask for sensitive information from the public, especially personal and bank card information, via regular or video calls. The calls have come from a foreign number, +92 348 1077883 – with the country code suggesting its origin as Pakistan.

The authority further cautioned public to remain vigilant for such scam attempts and requested not to share personal or banking information to these callers. Immigration also urged public to report such instances to them or other relevant authorities.
