MWSC begins development of 10,000 CMB storage tank in Hulhumale'

The groundbreaking ceremony of Male’ Water and Sewerage Company’s (MWSC) 10,000 CMB storage tank initiative in Hulhumale’ was held on Tuesday.

Under the initiative, a 10,000 CMB water storage facility of MWSC will be developed in Hulhumale’, and falls under the company’s “Water Security Plan”.

The groundbreaking ceremony, held at the MWSC Hulhumale’ Operation Center on Tuesday afternoon, was inaugurated by the Minister of Construction and Infrastructure, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib and MWSC Managing Director, Abdul Matheen Mohamed.

An initiative of the MWSC staff, the initiative will feature the largest-ever water storage unit installed by the corporation so far. MWSC also added the storage unit’s development is wholly done by local employees.

Upon completion of the tank, MWSC’s water storage capacity in Hulhumale’ will expand to a total of 22,000 CMB.

With the project’s estimated completion on February 2025, the initiative will approximately cost MVR 34.7 million according to MWSC.

The corporation further said this initiative aims to ensure uninterrupted water supply for Hulhumale’ households.

Under the “Water Security Plan” for the Greater Male’ area, MWSC decentralized water manufacturing by established two manufacturing operation centers in the area.

Besides connecting Male’ City and Hulhumale’ under the same water network by linking the pipes between the two islands via Sinamale’ Bridge, and installation of pump stations, MWSC is also working installing two more storage tanks at the lot number 378 in Male’ City as well.

MWSC said it remains committed in ensuring uninterrupted and sustainable clean water supply and sanitation services for the public.
