The handover of flats developed in Hulhumale’ Phase II under the ‘Gedhoruveriya’ scheme is on hold at the instructions of the Housing Ministry, says the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC).
In a statement on Monday, FDC said it has been receiving numerous requests for information regarding the signing of agreements and the handover of the first 4,000 units under the scheme.
It said that decisions regarding the recipients and allocation of units falls within the purview of the Housing Ministry, and not the FDC.
“Therefore, this corporation defers to the ministry in all matters related to the handover of the units,” it said.
The FDC said that the Housing Ministry has instructed the corporation to suspend all works related to the handover of the units.
The FDC it cannot do any work related to the handover process unless it receives the go-ahead from the Housing Ministry.
The government has come under mounting pressure over the delay in the handover of the land under the ‘Binveriya’ scheme and flats under the ‘Gedhoruveriya’ scheme – two housing schemes launched by the last administration.
It has sparked serial protests in Male’, including one as recently as last Friday.
