Authorities arrest box-cutter robber suspect

Authorities have arrested one individual for their suspected involvement in attacking and robbing a spa worker in Hulhumale’ with a box-cutter.

Maldives Police Service on Saturday evening announced that they arrested one Ali Shammah Waheed, 29 years of age (GDh. Thinadhoo), via a court order.

Police confirmed on Saturday afternoon that the attack took place at a spa located in Hulhumale’ Phase I. The incident reportedly took place around Saturday morning.

The victim, identified as a woman of foreign nationality, was cut with a box cutter, threatened and robbed of her money.

The Maldives capital has seen a sharp rise in robberies and assaults in recent months.

The authority said it received reports of 2,620 cases of theft and robbers and another 425 cases of assault so far this year.
