President inaugurates Youth Advisory Committee

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has inaugurated the National Youth Advisory Committee, designed to seek the opinion of youths in policymaking.

The committee was inaugurated on Monday in a ceremony held at the President’s Office.

According to the President’s Office, the purpose of the committee is to seek the opinion of Maldivian youth in implementing the government’s manifesto and key policies.

The committee is asked with advising the president on such matters, and identifying challenges facing the youth.

The committee is also tasked with conducting comprehensive discussions into such matters and advising the president on how the challenges can be addressed at a national and regional level.

Youth-led decision-making regarding issues facing the youth, addressing the issues they face, and building a generation of able youths is a component of the government’s manifesto.

 The 15-member Youth Advisory Committee was established on January 18. President Muizzu has decided that new members will be appointed to the committee twice during a presidential term, in order to boost the involvement of more youth.

The secretariate of the committee will be managed by the Youth Ministry.

The committee held its first meeting on Monday afternoon after the official inauguration ceremony, during which President Muizzu presented badges to the committee’s members.
