There is no vision for the management of the airport: Imran

President of Adhaalath Party Imran Abdulla, who was also a lead activist in the revoking of the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport (INIA) from GMR, has said that even though the airport has been handed over to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), the lack of progress in management of the airport is worrying.

Speaking at an interview at DhiTV last night, Imran said that the management of the airport is falling back to the bad condition it was before, and that the company had not come up with a proper vision for the management of the airport.

“Maldivian people had great hopes when the airport was reclaimed from GMR. It was been two months since and still, there is no vision for the airport. There is no proper plan for how it will be managed,” said Imran.

He said that the management of the airport has become careless. He pledged the government not to neglect this matter and to properly manage the airport.

Imran has been a lead activist the National Movement that voiced out sentiments to reclaim INIA from GMR. Sun tried to clarify if and how he plans to work towards the betterment of the management of the INIA. Imran however, has failed to answer the calls.

MACL has also been unavailable for a word regarding the matter. On the night the airport was reclaimed from GMR and handed over to MACL, Defence Minister and acting Transport Minister Mohamed Nazim said that he the management of the airport will see big changes.

“We believe that now, talking about the past is not important. We have to think about the future now. We will make the future better and the airport will see changes. We can improve MACL. We will not look back at the past anymore. We will look forward,” Nazim had said on the night the airport was handed over to MACL.

Imran, who has criticized the management of the airport, had staged a number of political activities to regain INIA from Indian company GMR. The management of the airport was handed over to GMR during Nasheed's presidency for a period of 25 years.
