Ruling PNC’s Parliamentary Group leader Ibrahim Falah, on Tuesday night, has described the ongoing 20th parliamentary assembly as the one with the best attendance rate, adding the assembly has completed more work in the past one and half months than any other parliamentary assemblies.

Speaking at a PNC event on Tuesday night, Falah said the 20th parliamentary assembly, in such a short span of time, has passed several new legislatures and brought amendments to numerous laws and regulations.

Underscoring there are 19 committees in the assembly, Falah detailed that there are eight to 11 members in each committee. He said committee members are not present on the parliament floor when committee works are ongoing.

He stressed that the work undertaken at the parliament floor is much less in comparison to the work undertaken at committees. Despite this, he expressed concern over the articles from various media outlets, spreading misinformation.

“However, some opposition media outlets are writing that the parliament adjourned the sitting with no work to do. Because of this, our constituents think we sleep in the afternoon after taking our salaries. On the contrary, we are only able to return home by 9:00pm at night. We are almost nodding off by the time we reach home,” he said.

Speaking further, Falah described the ongoing parliamentary assembly as the one with the best attendance rate. He noted that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had instructed MPs to become an exemplary parliamentary assembly at the time of their election.

While there 75 MPs representing PNC in the ongoing parliamentary assembly, Falah said they will not be absent from the parliament unless their health does not allow it. He further said the PNC-dominated parliament works, not just for the sake of doing something, but with purpose.

Notably, numerous works are undertaken at committee stages almost every day, In this regard, committee meetings are held on days when there are no parliamentary sitting on the agenda. Officials from various government offices and companies are summoned to these committee meetings to be questioned regarding various matters.
