Maldives bans Allegra suspension syrup over quality issues

Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) has announced a ban on the anti-allergic medicine Allegra suspension syrup (fexofenadine hydrochloride).

In a statement on Sunday, MFDA said that the decision was made after pharma giant Sanofi India, which produces the drug, alerted the authority to quality issues with three batches of the Allegra suspension system imported into the Maldives.

The three batches with known quality issues are: AL1223019, AL1223029 and AL1223060.

“Therefore, the import, sale and consumption of these three batches is hereby prohibited,” said the MFDA.

The MFDA asked pharmacies, warehouses or medical care facilities that are currently holding the three batches of Allegra suspension syrup to inform the authority via email at [email protected].

Those who require additional information regarding this are asked to call MFDA’s hotline 7200321.

Allegra suspension is typically given to children to manage symptoms stemming from allergic conditions like hay fever, watery eyes, runny nose, sneezing, itching and common cold.
