State Electric Company (STELCO)’s managing director Hussain Fahmy says the state utility provider is considering real-time billing, adding that the company already has the capacity to do so.
In a press briefing on Saturday regarding high electricity bills, Fahmy said there is a gap of 25-30 days between when the company takes the meter reading when it delivers the bill.
“We are considering going for real-time billing. Meaning a mechanism where the bill is delivered the moment the reading is taken,” he said.
Fahmy said the company has been facing the issue for the last 15 years.
“First it was a delay of one or tow days, now its one month,” he said.
Fahmy said the company will visit homes and discuss with customers before making any changes to the billing method.
He said that it is already possible for its employees to deliver the bill immediately after taking the reading. He added that STELCO wishes to open the opportunity for customers who want real-time billing.
Fahmy said that the company itself wants to implement real-time billing.
Also at Saturday’s press briefing, Fahmy announced plans to conduct an energy audit to identify the cause for high electricity bills.
