Maldivian Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has departed to Paris to attend the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics.
He left for the French capital on Wednesday morning.
According to the President’s Office, Hussain was invited to attend the opening ceremony by the French government and the International Olympic Committee.
The Paris 2024 Olympics will open on Friday, July 26.
During his time in Paris, Hussain will meet with the Maldivian contingent participating in Olympics and attend their respective competitions.
This year, five Maldivians will compete in the Olympics, marking the country's highest level of participation to date.
Last Sunday, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu met and commended the Maldivian athletes competing in the Olympics. He also affirmed the government's commitment to advancing sports in the country.
Fathimath Dheema Ali, a table tennis player, and Ibadulla Adam, a sprinter, have been selected to bear Maldives’ national flag during the opening ceremony of the Olympics.
