Members elected for GOPC, IPU ExCo

The executive committee members for the Maldivian branches of the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) and Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) have been elected on Sunday.

Maldives parliament said seven members were elected to GOPAC's Maldivian branch executive committee, with Parliament Speaker and Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla appointed as the chair, and Parliament Deputy Speaker and Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nizam appointed as vice-chair.

Maavah MP Ahmed Shakir was elected as the GOPAC committee's treasurer with Manadhoo MP Husnee Mubarik elected as the committee's secretary.

Other members of the committee include Dhaandhoo MP Mohamed Fazeel and South-Feydhoo MP Ibrahim Didi.

GOPAC, is a global organization, founded on the principles of combatting corruption, ensuring good governance of the state, and upholding the rule of law.

Parliament's Communications Director Hassan Ziyau, speaking about the committee, confirmed members were elected to IPU besides the GOPAC committee as well.

IPU Members and Designations:

  • President: Abdul Raheem Abdulla, Parliament Speaker and Fonadhoo MP
  • Deputy President: Ahmed Nazim, Parliament Deputy Speaker and Dhiggaru MP
  • Treasurer: Hussain Imran Latheef, South-Henveiru MP
  • Member: Fathimath Saudha, Nilandhoo MP
  • Member: Dr. Anara Naeem, Huraa MP
  • Member: Asma Rasheed, Central-Maafannu MP
  • Member: Ibrahim Nazil, South-Hithadhoo MP
  • Member: Abdulla Rifau, South-Maafannu

Ziyau further confirmed the members were elected with the votes from the members who attended to the meetings of both commitees.

IPU is the global organization of national parliaments, founded in 1889.
