Online courses approved for Quran and related subjects

Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA) has been greenlighted by the Islamic Ministry to conduct online courses for Quran and related subjects.

Online courses were barred for Quran and related subjects as per a list publicized by the MQA in 2022, detailing areas for which online courses are barred.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, MQA said Islamic Ministry, following discussions between the two, has provided written approval to conduct online courses for Quran and related subjects.

MQA noted that online courses were already available for the subjects Ma’anil and Ulum Quran while online courses for subjects such as Tilawat and Hifz will be implemented under the specific guidelines.

Citing the Islamic Ministry, MQA said exams cannot be held online for these subjects, nevertheless.

MQA, noting courses pertaining to Quran and related subjects can only be conducted with prior approval from the authority, has instructed institutes interested in conducting online courses in this area to formulate their courses and submit them for approval.

MQA added that approval will depend on the subjects taught under the program.
