15-day remand on cable theft suspect

Criminal Court has sentenced a 15-day remand on the suspect arrested for stealing cables from a STELCO sub-station near Majeedhiya School last Tuesday.

Police earlier confirmed arresting a 32-year-old local male in suspicion of the case, and added they were investigating the matter.

The law enforcement authority earlier said it received report of the robbery around the morning of Tuesday last week.

This marks the latest in a similar incident, while cables were stolen from lamp posts near Male' City food courts earlier.

There have been a number of other incidents involving robberies from mosques recently as well.

Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology earlier said 46 repeat offenders in the area have been arrested on multiple occasions, with the total number of their apprehension over 4,000 times - however, without incarceration.

The ministry said they are seeking ways to detain repeat offenders in custody.
