Male’ house fire: Two discharged, others recover at hospital ward

The condition of the people who were hospitalized for smoke inhalation following a fire at a home in Male’ City is improving, says the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

The fire broke out on the third-floor apartment of a building located in Flooniya Magu, Maafannu, on Thursday afternoon. Four people were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

A spokesperson from IGMH told Sun on Saturday morning that two of the patients were discharged after treatment, while the other two are being treated at the ward.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said that the fire caused extensive damage, with the living room and kitchen area completely burned down.

The agency said that the four people living in the apartment had been provided temporary shelter.

The Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has yet to publicly disclose the cause of the fire. However, the most common causes for house fires are electric short circuits and gas leaks.
