Public Service Media (PSM) has handed over the funds raised from the 'Falastheenaa eku Dhivehin' (Maldivians in solidarity with Palestine) telethon event to Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
PSM raised more than MVR 19 million through the telethon, all of which were handed over during a ceremony held on Wednesday.
PSM Managing Director Zeena Zahir handed over the donation money to Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer.
At the press conference that followed the hand-over, Zeena said a total MVR 19,186,851.50 was raised through the telethon.
The independent auditor Crowe Maldives oversaw the counting process of the funds raised from the telethon, along with the support of Bank of Maldives (BML) staff.
Crowe Maldives Managing Director Hassan Mohamed confirmed the event has been fully reviewed, assuring the entire process was transparent and accurate.
He confirmed MVR 15 million was credited to PSM's bank accounts, and the donation boxes raised over MVR 1 million. The telethon also raised another 49,800 in US dollars.
At the press conference Minister Zameer said the telethon was an initiation of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
"Maldivians share kinly bond with Palestinians. Every day, all of us and our children feel the pain and suffering our brothers and sisters go through in Palestine," Zameer said.
The funds raised through the telethon will be donated to Palestine through the Foreign Ministry and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
