President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu returned to Male’ on Tuesday morning, after concluding an official visit to India.
President Muizzu travelled to New Delhi on Saturday at the invitation of Indian prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend his inauguration for a record-equaling third term in office.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi, on Sunday evening.
During the visit, President Muizzu attended a banquet hosted by Indian President Droupadi Murmu, in honor of the visiting dignitaries.
The two presidents also had a meeting in which they discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation between the Maldives and India.
Additionally, Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar called on the President.
President Muizzu was accompanied by a high-level delegation of government officials.
The trip marked his first visit to India since assuming office on November 17, 2023.
It also came amid heightened tensions between Male’ and New Delhi, after President Muizzu demanded India withdraw its troops from the country, and after three deputy ministers made disparaging social media comments about PM Modi and India.
