Sun Siyam Vilu Reef hosts reef cleaning initiative

Sun Siyam Vilu Reef, a luxury tourist property under the Sun Siyam Resorts portfolio, on Wednesday hosted a reef cleaning event commemorating World Environment Day.

Vilu Reef staff and guests participated in the program.

The reef cleaning event was accompanied by an awareness program on environmental preservation, and a tree-planting initiative.

Wednesday's reef cleaning event is the latest in environmental conservation efforts led by Sun Siyam Vilu Reef. The luxury property has led several other community-centric initiatives previously as well.

This year's World Environment Day is themed "Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience' under the slogan "Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration."

Commemorating this year's World Environment Day, the government launched the nationwide tree-planting initiative on Wednesday - a pledge made by Maldives President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu at this year's COP29 summit.
