Pedestrian, biker in Hulhumale' accident receives treatment

Two individuals were taken to hospital for medical treatment after a biker hit a pedestrian.

The incident reportedely took place around 21:30hrs on Wednesday evening, near the Synthetic Track on Hithigas Magu when a motorbike hit a pedestrian trying to cross the road - police confirmed receiving report of the incident as well.

Both the rider and the pedestrian sustained varying degrees of injuries. The two were taken to Hulhumale' Hospital for treatment.

Authorities also confirmed the rider possessed valid driver's license as well, and added it was investigating the incident.

With road accidents increasing at an alarming rate in Greater Male' Area more recently, some of these incidents had fatal consequences as well.

Police said a total of 1,044 accidents were reported during the first four months of 2024 - which is a 355 increment in cases compared to the corresponding period last year.

In the first four months last year, 709 accidents were reported.
