15 residents in Guraidhoo Home for People with Special Needs released to families

The current administration, since assuming office in last November, has released 15 residents who completed treatment at the Home for People with Special Needs based in K. Guriadhoo to their families.

As per statistics shared with Sun by the Ministry of Social and Family Development, one resident was released to their family in November and an additional five residents were released to their families in December.

In this year, three residents were released to their families in both January and February. No residents were released to their families in April, however, two residents have been released to their families so far in May.

The current administration places a high priority on reuniting residents living a secluded life at the Home with their families.

In February, Minister of Social and Family Development Aishath Shiham said there were 29 residents admitted to the Home at that time, that were ready to be handed over to their families.

Meanwhile, the administration continues to work closely alongside the residents based at the Home and in this trajectory, has recently conducted skill courses for residents. A priority is also allocated to encourage a more active lifestyle for the residents, said the Ministry earlier. 

The Home for People with Special Needs in Guiradhoo was established in 1976. It is aimed at providing a safe environment to care for people with special needs due to mental or physical impairments.
