Fathimath Thaufeeq has been dismissed from her post as the managing director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), in the latest shakeup within the state tourism promotion board.

A top government official confirmed Fathimath was dismissed from her post on Wednesday.

However, the Privatization and Corporatization Board was not immediately available for comment regarding the decision.

Fathimath was appointed as the managing director of MMPRC, the state tourism promotion board, on December 17, 2023.

Her dismissal comes a day after Aisha Nurain Janah resigned from her post as the chairperson of MMPRC.

Nurain’s resignation was confirmed by the PCB in a post on its official X account on Thursday morning.

According to PCB, Nurain tendered her resignation on Wednesday.

The board said it had “accepted her resignation and terminated her from the position.”

However, neither Nurain nor any other government source has commented on the reason for the abrupt decision.

Nurain is the daughter of Mohamed Ali Janah, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s principal advisor on trade investment. She was appointed as the chairperson of MMPRC on December 27, 2023.

The shakeup within MMPRC follows media reports of clashes between Nurain and Tourism Minister Ibrahim Faisal, as well as Fathimath.

Another top official at MMPRC, Rafil Mohamed, who represented Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) on MMPRC’s board, had resigned back in April.

The changes also come after Ahmed Samah Rasheed was appointed as a state minister at the Fisheries Ministry on Wednesday, a day after he was dismissed from his post as the chief executive officer of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO).
