Plainclothes police officers attacked with knives; three arrested

Police have made three arrests after two plainclothes police officers were threatened and attacked with knives.

According to a police spokesperson, the incident took place at around 10:00 pm on Saturday.

The spokesperson did not specify where the incident took place.

According to the police, three Maldivian males were arrested in connection to the case; a 35-year-old and two 39-year-olds.

They were presented before the Criminal Court for their remand hearing on Sunday.

All three were remanded in custody of the police for seven days.

The case is under investigation by the police.

The spokesperson added that the police had received complaints regarding excessive use of force in the arrest of the suspects.

“The police’s Professional Standards Command is looking into the complaints,” said the spokesperson.
