During last year's Eid-al-Ad'ha celebrations --

Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage on Saturday confirms receiving proposals from 26 islands to host Eid-Al-Adha festivities.

The ministry said it would select three islands to host the festivities this year. Islands will be assessed for the number and varieties of celebratory activities for Eid, expenditure, and free-of-charge services for the festivities before the finalists are selected.

Seven northern islands, 10 from central parts, and nine from southern parts submitted proposals during the submission window. Several islands submitted proposals past deadline which were rendered inadmissable by the ministry.

The ministry has appointed a special committee to assess and mark the proposals, to select the finalists. The committee has already begun its work, with the finalists expected to be announced in upcoming week.

The ministry opened the opportunity to submit proposals earlier on April 25th 2024.

The Eid-Al-Adha, which follows Hajj Pilgrimage, the Islamic sacred act of worshipping, coincides with June 17th, 2024.
