Local telecom giant Ooredoo Maldives has launched ‘Digital Island’ initiative and announced N. Landhoo as the first ‘Ooredoo Digital Island’.
According to Ooredoo Maldives, the groundbreaking project falls under the telecom company’s commitment to advancing digital inclusion and empowerment across the nation.
Under the project, Ooredoo Maldives, in collaboration with Landhoo Council, will spearhead efforts to revolutionize the socio-economic landscape of the island community. Ooredoo Digital Island program, through strategic partnerships and innovative digital solutions, envisions to further unlock new avenues for growth and development, particularly in critical sectors such as healthcare, education, and commerce.
Commenting on the launch of the project, Ooredoo’s CEO Khalid Al Hamadi said the telecom company was impressed by Landhoo’s enthusiastic adoption of digital innovation aimed at enhancing the lives of its residents.
“The integration of m-Faisaa, our digital payment platform, into the daily lives of Landhoo residents last year marked a significant advancement in the local financial ecosystem. Notably, over eighty percent of transactions via Ooredoo happen digitally, showcasing the island's readiness to embrace digital solutions,” he added.
Landhoo Council President Abdul Azeez Mohamed expressed gratitude to Ooredoo for spearheading the initiative.
“Our council has a strong commitment to leveraging technology to improve public services and overall quality of life for the island's inhabitants,” he added.
Azeez said the council looks forward to the introduction of new-age digital solutions that will further benefit the people of Landhoo.
