The Male’ City Council’s ‘Male’ Fehi’ plant nurseries have been relocated to Hulhumale’, due to the high cost of running the outlets in Male’ City.

A spokesperson from the city council told Sun on Saturday that all plant shops have now been moved to Hulhumale’.

She said that the council incurred high recurrent expenses to run the outlets in Male’, including staff salary and rent.

“The place in Hulhumale’ is where most of the plants are. We have spall spaces here [in Male’]. There aren’t that many plants either,” she said.

The spokesperson said the city council has a large outlet in Hulhumale’ with a nursery, from where plants and fertilizer are sold.

The ‘Male’ Fehi’ initiative was launched back when President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu served as Male’ City Mayor. The project was launched to make Male’ greener, and promote home gardens.

At the time, he expressed hope the initiative would be adopted nationwide.
