Zakat Fund most utilized for cancer aid

Maldives Zakat House on Wednesday reported Zakat Fund was mainly utilized to assist cancer treatment in March 2024.

According to statistics, Zakat Fund was utilized to support five areas, which are;

• Combatting cancer - MVR 190,822.50
• Brain surgery - MVR 180,407.19
• Transplants - MVR 25,443.00
• Heart surgery - MVR 8,481.00
• Others - MVR 279,872.50

The statistics revealed a total of MVR 878,682.88 was utilized through the fund towards 59 people.

Additionally, another MVR 17,207.65 was extended to support individuals under special conditions.

The fund was also used to financially support scholarships. According to Maldives Zakat House statistics, MVR 44,563.80 was utilized to fund scholarships, while another MVR 374,950.28 was spent on wages and salaries of administrative staff.

The current government established the Maldives Zakat House, with the mandate of increasing public awareness and compassion towards one of the fundamental pillars of the Islamic faith.
