National Award to be conferred in nationalism category

National Award is set to be conferred in two new categories.

The President’s Office, in a statement on Thursday, announced the National Awards Committee’s decision to open nominations for the National Award next Tuesday.

The Office said the Committee had sought the opinion from relevant authorities and organizations regarding the categories the Award will be conferred in.

The two new categories being introduced this year are:

Dhivehi Nationalism Category

In conferring the National Award in this category, the Committee will consider efforts undertaken to promote and sustain unity among Maldivians, efforts undertaken to reinvigorate Islamic and Dhivehi cultural practices and efforts undertaken in introducing ideology, education, and expertise in a manner that promotes settlement in the Maldives.

Longstanding Special Service Category

In conferring the National Award in this category, the Committee will consider longstanding special service by utilizing a special talent possessed by the individual that has been recognized by the society in addition to special services provided to protect the state. How the service was rendered, its quality and its duration will be evaluated as well.

National Award will be awarded in the specific categories as follows:

National Award of Honor

The President will be presenting recipients of this award with commemorative shields, badges and certificates

National Award of Recognition

The President will be presenting recipients of this award with commemorative plaques and certificates  

The President’s Office noted that the National Awards will be conferred during the official function held to mark the National Day.
