A dozen people have been moved to temporary shelters after torrential rain hit Sh. Feevah last weekend, resulting in extensive flooding.
Feevah Council’s vice president Ahmed Manik told Sun on Monday that the 12 people moved to temporary shelters are all from one home.
According to Manik, their home was damaged in the flooding, making it inhabitable.
Torrential rain and thunderstorms affected islands across the Maldives on Saturday, resulting in extensive flooding, including in the capital, Male’ City, and a number of other islands.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), 20 homes in Feevah reported damage from the flooding, while three homes reported damage in Sh. Foakaidhoo.
The worst-hit was Male’ City, where 132 properties reported flood damage.
Other islands that reported flooding include Th. Hirilandhoo and Th. Vandhoo.
