Ruling People's National Congress (PNC) has condemned the call to provide electricity service only for the party members.

At PNC's campaign rally in Dhidhdhoo to endorse the party's candidate for the constituency, Abdul Latheef Mohamed, Fenaka Corporation's Dhidhdhoo branch Assistant Manager Abdulla Rasheed said it members of other parties should be fortunate to receive electricity, and claimed it should be provided only to the residences of PNC members until the parliamentary election was over.

The party responded to this on X, strongly condemning the statement Rasheed made given his professional designation of an Assistant Manager of a utility provider.

PNC said Rasheed's statements were no reflective of neither the party nor President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's policies.

"We wish to highlight President Muizzu's policy is to provide basic services to the public regardless of their political ideologies," PNC said on X.

While PNC has condemned a statement made one of its allies, the current opposition has claimed the ruling party was resorting to either intimidation or influence of employment to secure votes ahead of the election.

The ruling party however, has denied all such allegations.
