MACL employees arrested for drug trafficking through VIA

Authorities arrested two MACL employees on their suspected involvement in trafficking over 4.5 kilograms of drugs through Velana International Airport (VIA).

The drugs were smuggled inside a luggage on March 15th, which Maldives Police consfiscated when they subsequently arrested the individual who went to VIA to collect it. Additionally the authority arrested the two MACL employees.

However, out of the three suspects, a senior MACL employee was released at the remand hearing on Saturday. The individual received conditional bail in light of evidences against them.

Police further claimed the racket involved multiple MACL employees, added it was investigated as serious crime.
