The Bangladesh High Commission in Maldives has celebrated the 54th Independence and National Day of Bangladesh.
The celebrations, attended by the embassy staff and the Bangladeshi community living in the Maldivian capital, took place at the Bangladesh High Commission in Hulhumale’ on Tuesday.
The celebrations kicked off with the hoisting of the Bangladesh flag by at the High Commission by the Bangladeshi High Commissioner Rear Admiral S.M. Abul Kalam Azad, as the national anthem of Bangladesh played in the background.
This followed the reading of messages from the Bangladeshi President Mohammed Shahabuddin, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister Mohammed Hasan Mahmud.
In his address at the event, High Commissioner Azad paid tribute to the founder of Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other valiant freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the independence of the country.
He mentioned the friendly relationship between Bangladesh and Maldives, and expressed his warm wishes to the people of Maldives on the auspicious day.
He also highlighted on increasing people to people contact and more engagement in education, health, tourism and business activities between the two friendly countries.
He underscores the excellent bilateral relationship between Bangladesh and Maldives, and thanked the Maldivian government, as well as Maldivian Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer his greetings on the occasion.
Before concluding his address, he urged everyone to work from “your own position, for the overall development of the nation to make the beloved motherland a smart Bangladesh by 2041.”
