Pakistani traveler arrested with MVR 5m in drugs

A Pakistani national who flew into Male’ has been arrested, after authorities found drugs worth over MVR 5 million hidden inside his luggage.

According to a statement released by Maldives Customs Service on Wednesday, the passenger, identified as a 56-year-old Pakistani male, flew into Male’ from Doha, Qatar, on March 12.

Airport officials checked his luggage, and found 5.30 kilos of drugs hidden inside.

The drugs tested positive for heroin.

The street value of the drugs he was carrying is estimated to be MVR 5.3 million.

The case is now under investigation by the police. Both the suspect and the drugs are now in police custody.
