13 injured in boat accident off Vilimale’

Two speedboats collided off suburban Vilimale’ on Thursday, leaving 13 people injured.

According to police, the accident, which took place near the water sports area, was reported to the authorities at 07:48 pm on Thursday.

The police initially reported that the accident resulted in injuries to two people – identified as Maldivian males.

But a police spokesperson issued a statement later saying that 13 people were injured in the accident.

“This includes 10 workers from Afcons and three people on a speedboat from Anantara,” said the spokesperson.

They were initially taken to the Vilimale’ Hospital.

However, six of them have now been transferred to the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’ City.

The extent of their injuries is unclear at the moment.

Marine police are currently operating at the scene.
