One person has died after a landing craft overturned at Kaashidhoo Kandu (Kaashidhoo Sea) on Wednesday.
In a message to the media, Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) said the landing craft, which overturned at Kaashidhoo Kandu, belonged to Sifainge Welfare Company (SIWEC).
The authority said it was undertaking efforts to rescue people aboard the vessel who were stranded at sea following the incident.
The authority did not specify the exact number of people aboard the vessel at the time of the incident.
However, five people aboard the vessel were transported to Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital. All five were identified as Maldivians by the hospital.
One of them has died.
The remaining four individuals are being treated in the hospital’s ER.
The hospital said they have received information that a sixth person aboard the vessel was being transported to the hospital at present.
MNDF has not provided any information regarding how the incident came about.
