The body of the Maldivian man who went missing after a cargo boat capsized on Sunday morning has been found. He has been identified as an experienced captain who spent his entire life working at sea.
The vessel, Balma 6, capsized near Taj Exotica Resort at 07:27 hrs on Sunday morning. Of the four people on board, two survived, while one Maldivian and one foreigner went missing.
The Maldivian victim was found on the beach of Taj Exotica at around 11:00 hrs the same morning. He has been identified as Ali Hussain, 60, of B. Hithaadhoo.
Family members wrote on social media that Ali Hussain had been a captain since the early days of mechanised fishing boats, later serving as captain of a supply vessel. Those who knew him described him as a role model with decades of experience at sea.
His funeral was held at the new cemetery after Isha prayers.
Police have not released further details about the incident. The search for the missing foreigner is ongoing.
Several tragic incidents occurred at sea last year, with some individuals still unaccounted for.
