A fire that broke out on a vessel carrying three people on Wednesday evening has been brought under control, police said.

The incident occurred near K. Gamarugiri and was reported to police at 19:13 hrs, a police spokesperson told Sun.

According to police, the crew members are in good condition, and no injuries have been reported.

The vessel was transporting garbage to K. Thilafushi when the fire started. While the blaze has been contained, authorities noted that fully extinguishing it will take time due to the large amount of waste onboard.

Police said the incident is under further assessment.
