President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to expand the harbor in GA. Gemanafushi and build a large multi-purpose hall in the island.
Addressing a gathering in Gemanafushi on Wednesday, President Muizzu said he would prioritize addressing the appeals made by the island’s council.
He said that he would run a project to expand the island’s harbor in order to boost the local fisheries trade.
“Given that this is an island popular for fisheries, I believe that the harbor should be expanded as the fisheries sector develops, as the people develop, and as the population increases. I will redevelop the harbor as you, the beloved residents of this island, wish,” he said.
President Muizzu also promised to prioritize the land reclamation project in Gemanafushi, and to conduct projects to establish a sewerage system in the island and build a multi-purpose hall.
He also pledged to restart the construction of a police station in Gemanafushi – a project which has remained stalled for the last eight years – and to establish a Bank of Maldives (BML) branch and recruit doctors to the island’s health center.
