Ilham to contest for Funadhoo constituency on MDP’s ticket

Ilham Ahmed and Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s leader, former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

Former lawmaker Ilham Ahmed, on Sunday, announced that he will be contesting for Sh. Fonadhoo constituency seat in the upcoming parliamentary election on opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s ticket.

Ilham has previously served as the lawmaker for Gemanafushi and Dhangethi constituencies in the parliament.

Ilham, who entered politics through Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), had served as the party’s deputy leader as well. He has also served as the deputy leader of Jumhoory Party (JP) and Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and deputy parliamentary group leader of the PPM-PNC coalition.

Ilham also was an advisor to JP’s leader Qasim Ibrahim.

He joined MDP during the party’s leader, former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s presidential campaign back in September last year.

He has also served as the president of the Football Association of the Maldives (FAM) previously.

The Funadhoo constituency is represented by MDP’s Mohamed Shahid in the ongoing 19th parliamentary assembly.
