Following its inception on Sunday, registrations have opened for the national registry of taxi drivers.

The formulation of a national registry for taxi drivers is a pledge included in President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s ‘Hafuthaa 14’ roadmap, or first 100-day pledges.

Transport Ministry, on Sunday, said they have formulated a national registry for taxi drivers following which they have opened registrations for taxi drivers.

The Ministry has instructed taxi drivers to submit the application form via the Ministry’s SIMS portal for registrations.

The government states taxi drivers on the registry will be viewed by the government as individuals who undertake taxiing as their source of income.

The government also noted plans to establish a digital payment system for the provision of taxi services which excludes fees charged imposed under such systems by holding discussions with banks.
