MFDA warns against use of ‘Betty Crocker Super Moist Cake Mix’ over discovery of lice

Lice discovered from Betty Crocker Super Most Cake Mix boxes.

Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA), on Sunday, warned against using a popular cake mix brand among Maldivians, ‘Betty Crocker Super Most Cake Mix’, following the discovery of lice.

In a statement, MFDA said lice were discovered in Chocolate Fudge and Milk Chocolate flavors of Betty Crocker Super Moist Cake Mix boxes.

The authority said they tested samples from cake mix boxes of the brand available on Male’ market following a complaint submitted by a member of the public, reporting lice.

As per the authority, they discovered lumps and insect infestations such as lice from some of the samples.

Therewith, the authority has instructed against the sale and use of Betty Crocker Super Moist Cake Mix boxes, deeming them unsafe for consumption.

MFDA detailed that lice were discovered from the Chocolate Fudge flavor of Betty Crocker Super Moist Cake Mix batch set to expire on March 18th, while additional contamination was discovered from the Milk Chocolate of Betty Crocker Super Moist Cake Mix batch set to expire on April 13th.

The authority has instructed to contact them at 3014361 and 7603204 for further information regarding the issue.
