President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu states one the islands of Kinbidhoo and Veymandoo in Thaa Atoll are linked by the causeway in the pipelines will pave for additional higher education opportunities.
He made the pledge responding to concerns by a resident of Th. Kinbidhoo, Aishath Vaseela, over the lack of higher educational opportunities in the island on the ‘Raees ge Javaabu’ series on Friday; a platform that enables the public to get direct responses to their queries and concerns from the President. She inquired about the president’s policy to resolve the issue.
Responding to the question – President Muizzu said the causeway linking Kinbidhoo and Veymandoo would address the fact that there is no opportunity to study A’ Levels in Kinbidhoo at present. He cited this as one of his plans to resolve the issues which persist on the island.
“The causeway between Veymandoo and this island [Kinbidhoo] will allow for land transportation. The islands will be linked. There will be benefits because of this, including in education opportunities,” he said.

The President, however, noted that there are ways to create higher educational opportunities on the island. In this trajectory, he affirmed to address the issue at the earliest.
Veseela has posed an additional question to the President following his response – stressing the difficulties faced due to the lack of a university campus on the island.
President Muizzu, in his response, reiterated his earlier remark that the Kinbidhoo-Veymandoo causeway will bring an adequate solution to this. He cited this as the best course of action to achieve the desired goal.
“Establishing a university campus or paving way for university education can be achieved by the linkage and subsequent increase in population. People from other islands will migrate then. It will be good, I think, when it is done this way,” he said.
He affirmed his commitment to resolving the issue, by allocating special priority to it.
Linking Kinbidhoo and Veymandoo via a causeway is an electoral pledge of former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. At the conclusion of his five-year term, no work on the project had been commenced, and no progress had been achieved.
During his tour of Thaa Atoll this week, President Muizzu vowed that his administration will make the causeway a reality.
