Pakistan High Commission observes Kashmir Solidarity Day

The Pakistan High Commission in the Maldives held a ceremony on Monday to observe Kashmir Solidarity Day.

The ceremony, held at the Pakistan High Commission in Hulhumale’ to reaffirm support for Kashmiris in their struggle for self-determination in the Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, was attended by Pakistanis and Maldivians alike.

Speaking at the event, Pakistan High Commissioner Vice Admiral (retired) Muhammad Fayyaz Gilani expressed concern over rights violations in Kashmir.

He said that the right to self-determination is a cardinal principle of international law.

“The UN General Assembly annually adopts a resolution expressing unequivocal support for the realization of the right to self-determination for people under foreign occupation. Regrettably, the Kashmiri people have not been able to exercise this inalienable right,” he said.

The called for an end to rights violations, UN-mandated investigations into cases of rights violations, and the implementation of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

“Pakistan will continue to lend unstinted moral, diplomatic and political support to the Kashmiri people till the realization of their right to self-determination, as enshrined in the relevant UN Security Council resolutions,” he said.

Deputy High Commissioner Zulqurnain Ahmad said that Kashmiris have been suffering and striving for their legitimate right to self-determination for over 75 years.

He also thanked Maldivians for their support for Kashmiris.

The event concluded with special prayers offered for the martyrs and for the freedom of Kashmir.
