The Maldives has strongly condemned the string of coordinated terrorist attacks that took place last Saturday across Pakistan’s Balochistan province, killing dozens of people.

In a statement on Monday, the Maldivian Foreign Ministry said that the Maldives stands “in firm opposition to all forms of terrorism, violent extremisms and criminal acts, in all its forms and manifestations.”

The Maldives extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved families of the victims, and reaffirmed its solidarity with the government and people of Pakistan, during this time of grief.

“The Maldives wishes a swift and full recovery to those injured in the attack,” added the Foreign Ministry in its statement.

The gun and bomb attacks across Balochistan killed 31 civilians and 17 security service personnel.

The outlawed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility Saturday’s attacks, claiming to target military installations and police and civil administration officials in gun attacks and suicide bombings across nine districts of Balochistan.

The attacks killed 31 civilians and 17 security service personnel.

Over 145 alleged militants have been killed by Pakistan’s security forces in response to the attacks.

Balochistan has long been the site of a rebellion by separatist groups seeking independence from Pakistan’s central government in Islamabad. The province is the country’s poorest, despite an abundance of untapped natural resources.
