A top official from the President’s Office says the government will utilize all its resources to get justice for Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem, after he was attacked by two men while out jogging.
Shameem was attacked with a weapon by two people on a motorbike on a road in Male’ City on Wednesday morning. He fractured his left arm in the attack.
Ibrahim Khaleel, the Minister for Strategic Communications at the President’s Office, told Sun that the government condemns the dangerous attack on Shameem in the harshest terms.
He said that the government will utilize all its resources and powers to bring perpetrators of such acts of terrors to justice.
“The government will work speedily by utilizing all its resources and options in order to bring perpetrators of such crimes to justice,” he said.
Khaleel said that security services will be vigilant to prevent a repeat of such violent crimes, and will do everything possible to protect public officials.
“The government remains committed to maintaining peace and security in this country. To prevent any room for acts of terrorism,” he said.
Khaleel wished Shameem a speedy recovery, adding that he hopes to see him return to work soon.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has strengthened Shameem’s security in the wake of the attack.
Home Minister Ali Ihusan wrote on X that the police were treating the case as a top priority, and promised to bring the perpetrators to justice.
However, the police have yet to confirm an arrest in the case.
