US affirms support for the Maldives in preserving sovereignty

Commander of the United States Indo-Pacific Command Admiral John Aquilino has assured of US’ support to the Maldives in maintaining peace and security while preserving its sovereignty.

Commander Aquilino provided the assurance during a meeting with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Sunday morning at the President’s Office.

At the meeting, Commander Aquilino congratulated President Muizzu on his assumption of office and remarked on the longstanding relationship between the Maldives and the United States.

He reiterated his commitment to full assistance in strengthening capacity building in the defence force. He also affirmed support for the Maldives in maintaining peace and security while preserving its sovereignty and expressed interest in exploring new areas of cooperation.

President Muizzu also expressed his appreciation for the United States in aiding the Maldives in capacity building by providing training opportunities for Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) personnel.
